Un-learn back pain!

What are you teaching your body?

Pain is something that the body learns. For example, let’s say you drop a pen. You bend over to pick it up and suddenly you feel shooting pain in your back. Now your body has already created a pain memory. Consciously, you worry that if you bend over in that same way again, you will feel pain again. Unconsciously, your body does the same thing. You will now bend in different ways to get that pen in the future

Another good example is when you wake up with a “crick” in your neck. Have you ever noticed that for the rest of the day, you hold your head funny to try not to aggravate your pain? That’s your body learning from pain. That ‘education’ however can cause you to acquire habits for the rest of your life. While your body is trying to help, it can actually be hurting you.

Pain is your body’s way of saying something is wrong. But if you are experiencing recurring /chronic pain, you’ve probably only treated the symptom and not these underlying faulty connections between the brain and the body.

Well, a new study has found that by addressing pain with physical therapy, you can re-train your body/brain pathways.
