And just what are those buttock muscles telling us? A recent study says: They prefer single leg squats done with an elevated foot for superior strength gains. Doing squats with both feet flat on the floor is actually not as effective for hips — even if you use really heavy weights! A great example of a single leg squat is the Bulgarian lunge- but form is key!
